The Tide Must Turn is Ryan Jackson & Glenda Bautista. We’ve both known each other since we were 16, have computer dayjobs, and live in New York. (Glenda lives in New York City, and Ryan lives in Westchester County.) We’ve been friends for more than a decade, save for some years after college where we had a dumb fight about something stupid that we don’t even remember what it was about anymore.
We both play guitar and keyboards. In addition to that, Glenda sings, writes lyrics, and plays the drums. Ryan produces, records, and makes beats. We mostly come in the form of a duo, but oftentimes can be found playing with a rotating cast of characters and musicians that we know.
We don’t like naming our influences since they come from everyplace, so we’ll stick to what people liken our stuff to: The Kills, Curve, White Stripes, Phantogram… less Matt & Kim and Mates of State. All compliments, but we know, we know — it’s really easy to be compared to duos that are comprised of a guy and a girl. Go figure. We swear we’re not married to each other (Ryan is married) or related in any way (Glenda has a brother that plays music too).
This site exists is so that we’re able to find and post scraps for our songwriting ideas or things that we find amusing. We certainly don’t agree on everything — in fact, please don’t ask us about politics because that is bound to start a fight. We make music because it’s fun to make and fun to play, so why not make a website for fun? Exactly.
